Thunderbird Trivia

The Thunderbird was named by Ford employee Gib Giberson. He won a $250 suit and also designed the 1955 T-Bird logo Thunderbird comes from the N. American Mythological Indian bird that produced thunder, lightning and rain.  The original T-Birds ran from 1954 (Sept. 1st 1954) to 1997 (Sept. 4th 1997).  Retired Ford employee Billy Jones drove the last one off of the line in 1997. He worked at the Lorain Ohio Plant for 37 years. 1958 saw only 2,134 convertibles.
